The DR500C+ Talking Bus® System

Digital Recorders, Inc.'s Talking Bus® System is the industry-leading automated voice announcement and passenger information solution for the public transit market. The system consists of an open architecture core logic unit, the DR500C+, and a constantly expanding set of add-on features and services.

At its most basic level, the DR500C+ serves as an automated announcement and public address (PA) system, ensuring compliance with ADA rulings which require that all major stops be announced. Clear, digitally recorded human-voice announcements can be played both inside and outside the vehicle for riders and waiting curbside passengers. The system lends itself to customization, including multi-lingual messaging and time-sensitive announcements.

The open architecture design of the DR500C+ logic unit also makes it well suited as the heart of an intelligent vehicle system, or if such a system is already in place, allows for seamless integration with the existing intelligent vehicle electronics. A multitude of industry standard protocols and interfaces are supported, and unique requirements are often easily accommodated.

Available options include Automatic Message Trigger (a GPS-based fully automatic solution which requires absolutely no driver interaction after initial logon), Hands-Free Driver Microphone (a unique hands-free driver's microphone system), internal LED signs (visually confirm announcements to riders, as well as convey additional information), destination sign control (provides a single-point of logon for the driver), and much more.

Also available as a part of the Talking Bus® System is our Central Recording Station (CRS), a hardware/software route database management system which is in its third major revision and utilized at dozens of transit properties across the U.S. Known for its ease of use and flexibility, the CRS guides the user through the process of constructing, arranging, and compiling the route/stop and announcement information used by the DR500C+. It utilizes powerful hardware and a familiar Windows working environment. Digital Recorders is also happy to provide route database programming services if required.
