Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL)

Introducing Digital Recorders, Inc.'s Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) - the most versatile, robust, and easy-to-use system of its kind.

Digital Recorders, Inc.'s AVL system:

Example AVL Screen

Real time vehicle tracking. Unlike traditional AVL systems, vehicle reporting times as frequent as once per second are supported. You can view and track your vehicles individually, by groups, or system-wide. Street level maps with nearest address reporting for all vehicles provides precise location information.

Instant schedule adherence feedback. On-time, hot, cold, off route - know your fleet's status at all times. Feedback is provided in color-coded and icon form (for quick identification) as well as text and numerical form (for detailed information). Threshold limits for exception notification are easily adjustable. Schedule adherence data can be post processed as well, with available management reports and summaries.

Covert alarm and priority tracking. A driver initiated covert alarm triggers immediate priority position reporting to the AVL workstation. The workstation clearly indicates the alarm vehicle to the dispatcher both visually and audibly. Positive, discrete feedback is sent to the driver of the vehicle once the alarm has been acknowledged by the dispatcher, assuring them that help is on the way.

Incident review. VCR-like features allow the user to playback historical events from on-line or archived data - an excellent tool for incident management and schedule planning.

AVL monitor cluster

Remote monitoring. Management or other personnel not located at the dispatch office can view the vehicle information in the comfort of their office, or even in their vehicle! Remote monitoring tools provide all the same information present at the dispatch center while remaining completely independent of the dispatcher's own display and controls.

Data messaging. Canned and free-text messaging is supported between dispatch and the vehicle operator's control unit, reducing voice traffic and ensuring timely and clear communication.

Public or private communications systems. Digital Recorders, Inc.'s AVL is independent of any single communication system. The system can operate through existing public telecommunication infrastructure such as EDGE, 1XRTT, or GPRS. It can also interface to existing private radio systems, or Digital Recorders, Inc. can implement a private radio network to meet your needs.
